HYUK JOO KWUN

Hyuk Joo was born in Seoul (Korea rep.) 17 December 1985, and began his violin studies at the age of 3. He began to give concerts at the age of 4, and showed such a promising talent that he was accepted at the Korean National Institute of Arts in Seoul at the age of 6 with prof. Nam yun Kim. At the age of 6, he won a top prize at Music Journal Competition.

In 1995 Hyuk Joo moved to Russia. and in Moscow he studied at the Tchaikovsky Central Music School. He began studing with prof. Eduard Grach. His engagements have included perfomances with Moscow National Orchestra in 1997,1998,1999 and with Kremlin Chamber Orchestra in 1997. He was also invited to the International Youth Soloist Festival in Moscow (1996, 1997, 1998, 1999). He actively gives concerts in the halls of Moscow and other Russian cities and also in Korea, Israel, Germany and Lithuania (was laureate in the International festival of young musicians 1997, 1998, 1999).

Hyuk Joo, at age 11, won 2nd prize at the 3rd International Tchaikovsky Competition for young musicians in 1997. After Hyuk Joo's perfomance a jury member said "The Young J.Heifetz". He has also given recitals in Moscow and Petersburg. Since 1997, Hyuk Joo starts to give many concerts: Plays a Brahms concerto, Beethoven concerto, Paganini concerto#1, Khrennikov concerto #2, Khachaturian concerto and Beethoven triple concerto with orchestra in the Grand hall of Moscow.

In 2000 he gives a concert in Yalta of Ukraine, in the maly hall and Grand hall of Moscow and Seoul, and he played Vivaldi's "Four Season" in Seoul Art Center with Eurosian chamber orchestra (conductor : Nan Sae KUM)

In 2001 he plays a Paganini caprices in the maly hall of Moscow conservatory and also in the Seoul.

In 2001, he finished the Moscow Central Music School and entered in the Moscow Conservatory.

In 2001 October, he won the Grand-prix (and prize of best peformance a virtuoso work and EMCY prize) in Kloster-Schontal Competition (Germany) and participated in the Keshet Eilon violin mastercourse (2001, 2002, 2003)and studied with Maestro Schlomo Mintz, Ida haendel, Thomas Brandis and Cihat Askin. He was the top violinist in Masterclass and he was present one of top violinists of Korea in Music Journal "Strad" (korean edition).

In 2002, he won the Grand-prix (and prize of best performance a Mendelsohn-Yampolsky - Rondo Capriccioso) in 3rd Yampolsky Competition in Russia (where team of jury was a Prof. Rollo Kovac, Victor Danchenko, Eszter Perenyi, Ani Schnarch, Valentin Zhuk.

Now Hyuk Joo continiues study with prof. Eduard Grach in Moscow Thcaikovsky Conservatory. Hyuk Joo will play Bramhs violin concerto in Tel-Aviv (Israel) with Haifa Philarmonic (Conductor: Maestro Schlomo Mintz) He will play Lalo "Symphony Espagniole with Suwon Philarmonic in Seoul Art Center (November 2003) Hyuk Joo will play the Prokofiev's violin sonata in Maly Hall of Conservatory (December 2003), Paganini 24 caprices also in Maly Hall of Conservatory (March.2004).

June 2004 he won first price of 7th. Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition in Denmark.
